Racists assaulted a ethnic Sakha student in Yekaterinburg, Russia according to a September 18, 2008 report by the Sova Information-Analytical Center. On September 17, Vladislav Sergeev walked by a group of young men, who started yelling, "a Chinese man!" at him (the Sakha, also known as Yakuts, are an ethnic minority group from Siberia who tend to have Asian features). Someone shot him or threw something at him from behind, at which point he fell to the ground and his assailants started kicking him. A merchant observing the violence threatened to call the police, at which point the men left. The victim did not bother reporting the attack to police and was released from the hospital after a day of treatment.
