Anti-Extremism Bill Published in Moldova

(January 17, 2003)

KISHINEV, January 15 (Itar-Tass) -- The draft law "On Countering Extremist Activities" was published in Moldova on Wednesday for nationwide discussion.

Citizens were invited to take part in the discussion of such issues as preventing, detecting and stopping extremist activities, Artur Reshetnikov, a presidential adviser for legal issues, told journalists.

In his words, "the parliament opposition and some mass media have severely criticised this initiative of the head of state".

"We believe that society has been given an opportunity to see that it would be appropriate to adopt the law that envisages clear-cut mechanisms for fighting extremism", he said.
