Jewish Day School Honors Uzbek President

A New York Jewish day school honored the president of Uzbekistan. BeŽer Hagolah Institutes — The Center for Russian Jewry, the largest American school for Jewish immigrant children from the former Soviet Union, honored President Islam Karimov on Wednesday for his support of Jewish life in Uzbekistan and for his backing of the U.S.-led war on terror. Under Karimov, Uzbekistan established full diplomatic relations with Israel and was one of the first countries to announce its support of the U.S. war on terror. Among those honoring Karimov at the Plaza Hotel in New York were former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Lev Leviev, president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the Former Soviet Union.
