Five tombstones in a Jewish cemetery in the northern Moldovan city of Soroki have been vandalized, according to an April 5, 2005 report by the AEN news agency. Police have opened an investigation. Two years ago the same cemetery was vandalized; no suspects were arrested in connection with that incident. As the AEN correspondent covering the story put it: “Bad examples, as we know, are infectious.”
