Jewish Cemetery Vandalized in Kishinev, Moldova

Almost 50 tombstones in a Kishinev, Moldova Jewish cemetery were vandalized during Passover, according to a statement by the president of the Kishinev Jewish Community Yakov Vayselbukh, reproduced in full in the April 9, 2002 issue of “Nezavisimaya Moldova.” Many of the tombstones are damaged beyond repair. Without giving the exact date of the attack, Mr. Vayselbukh pointed out that it took place not only during Passover, but also near the anniversary of the infamous 1903 Kishinev pogrom. The community has asked the police to investigate the incident.
