
The Latvian security police are bringing charges against a 17 year old girl in connection with a racist attack, according to a May 30, 2006 article in the Riga-based newspaper “Chas.” According to the article, on January 12, 2006 two Sri Lankan students, a brother and sister, were walking in downtown Riga when they were attacked by the suspect, who is considerably bigger than the students. A friend of the alleged assailant reportedly yelled in English “Get out of Latvia!” during the attack, which resulted in the Sri Lankan man losing several teeth. The suspect is being charged with a hate crime.
