The security services of the breakaway Moldovan region of Trans-Dniester have arrested skinheads suspected of involvement in the bombings of a Tiraspol synagogue in April and June 2001, according to the August 1, 2001 issue of the Moldovan newspaper Nezavisimaya Moldova.
Upon learning of the skinheads' arrest, UCSJ's Chicago affiliate, Chicago Action for Jews in the Former Soviet Union, contacted its partner in the humanitarian assistance program "Yad l' Yad" ("Hand to Hand")-Anna Kondrashenko in Tiraspol. She confirmed the veracity of the newspaper report and added that nobody was injured in any of the bombings. The bomb in April was placed on the outside of the synagogue's window, which it shattered upon exploding. The June bomb damaged the main door of the synagogue when it exploded during the night. UCSJ and Chicago Action are currently making inquiries to find out additional information about the suspects and the course of the investigation.
