In a October 8, 2001 statement read on the Voice of the Islamic Repulic of Iran radio station in the Azeri language, Huseynaga Sardarov of the Islamic Party of the Azerbaijani Republic made the following statement:

"We, the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan, have always condemned and condemn US attacks. This attack by America, i.e. showing off to the Muslims of the world and its wish to scare the Muslims of the world, this is the main purpose. That is to say the issue of terrorism and Bin-Ladin is nonsense. Because America itself has fostered Bin-Ladin. America is trying to attack the Muslims today using the man it has fostered itself. For this reasons, the Muslims of the world should be vigilant and everyone should raise their voice against this aggression by America. How come American intelligence could not follow a terrorist act which had been prepared for years, but says in one day that Muslims committed it? That is to say, this is a deliberate thing, and America and Zionism did it. Their goal is a crusade against Muslims. That is how we see it."
